Use of interprofessional simulation-based learning to develop perioperative nursing students' self-efficacy in responding to acute situations

2021

Abstract Self-efficacy is an essential concept regarding academic performance and persistence in higher education. Research indicates that interprofessional simulation-based learning influences participants’ self-efficacy and points to a need for more research on self-efficacy and its development. This study describes perioperative nursing students’ experiences with how interprofessional simulation-based learning contributes to self-efficacy in communication, interdisciplinary collaboration, and prioritising tasks in acute situations. Six qualitative focus group interviews were conducted with thirty-four perioperative nursing students from four universities and university colleges in Norway…

Simulation-Based Learning, an Essential Tool for Control Process in Food Engineering Education

2019

Abstract Simulation-based learning has become an essential tool for food engineers in education and industry. The students from food engineering higher education usually have difficulties to understand abstract concepts of the process control, to make links among microbiology, biochemistry and automation of the technological process from food industry. The present paper describes a methodology for teaching the process control by developing a control level process using simulation-based learning. The used of this metode highlighted that the students developed competence toward “thinking like a scientist”, developed argumentation and critical decision-making skills and reinforced research-pla…

Use of simulation-based learning among perioperative nurses and students: A scoping review.

2018

Abstract Objectives Simulation-based learning has been extensively explored, especially in baccalaureate nursing programmes. Recently, simulation-based learning has been introduced in perioperative nursing. The aim of this scoping review is to investigate work published on the use of simulation-based learning in the field of perioperative nursing. Design and data sources A scoping review was conducted using the methodological framework of Arksey and O'Malley to identify a broad range of relevant literature, regardless of study design. A comprehensive and systematic search was performed using Medline, CINAHL, Eric, Svemed+, PsychINFO and Embase in May 2016 and then was updated in February 20…

METHODOLOGY DEVELOPMENT IN ADULT LEARNING RESEARCH. COMBINING PHYSIOLOGICAL REACTIONS AND LEARNING EXPERIENCES IN SIMULATION-BASED LEARNING ENVIRONME…

2020

We aim to clarify whether physiological measurement technologies can be used in combination with traditional educational research methods to investigate learning experience. We developed an interdisciplinary research design for multilevel investigation of adult learning experience. We collected data in aviation simulations and forestry simulations, to show both similarities and differences between different learning situations. Both settings utilize high quality virtual simulations allowing learning to occur in near authentic situations. The learning situations were structured pedagogically in a similar way. They involve learner-instructor interaction in a one-on-one setting and follow a tr…
